ECONOMIC VALUE OF SPORTS
Sport’s contribution to the English economy reached £20.3 billion in 2010, 1.9% of the England total.
This placed sport up in the top 15 industry sectors in England above motor vehicles, telecoms services, legal services, accounting, publishing, advertising and the utilities.
Previous work into the economic value of sport also compared the value of the sport sector across the country.
London makes the most contribution, because of the size of its economy. However all nine English regions benefit from the economic impact of sport. For example, the North East, has the lowest level of investing into sports and employment in sports. But as a proportion of the region’s overall spend and jobs, both are well above the English average.

SOCIAL VALUE OF SPORTS
Here are some statistics I found on http://www.sportengland.org/research/benefits-of-sport/social-value-of-sport/
- Young people’s participation in sport improves their numeracy scores by 8% on average above non-participants.
- Underachieving young people who take part in sport see a 29% increase in numeracy skills and a 12 to 16% rise in other transferable skills.
- Returns on investment in sports program mes for at-risk youth are estimated at £7.35 of social benefit for every £1 spent – through financial savings to police, the criminal justice system and the community.
- Building places such as active centres reduces crime because if they are occupied then they wouldn't get bored or think of committing crimes; also anisocial behaviour because the community have something to do and would build a brilliant relationship within the comminity, could get better education and younger people could get imspired from role models in the community.
- Opening other active and learning centres could influence healthier choices, for example if a teenager sits in and plays games not only are they isolating themselves also being antisocial; this could cause problems in later life
such as diseases. However if he is out and playing football in the local sports centre they are socialising with other people in the community and making healthier choice and getting active.
